About India

Trekking

Officially the Republic of India, India is the seventh largest country in the world by geographical area and the second most populous with 1.20 billion people.

Since it achieved independence from the British Empire more than 50 years ago, India gets developed very fast.
Economic growth since 1980 is among the fastest in the world. Social indicators for literacy, education enrollment, disease and mortality, and gender have steadily improved whereas poverty has fallen since the middle of 1970's.

With such a population, one can easily guess that India is a melting pot of ethnies, people, ages and religions. Indeed, the society count people following Hinduism as well as Islam, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism or Christianity.

Set apart from the rest of Asia by the supreme continental wall of the Himalayas, the Indian subcontinent is immediately recognizable on any world map. This triangular peninsula defines the Bay of Bengal to the east, the Arabian Sea to the west, and the India Ocean to the south. It is borded by Pakistan in the west, China, Nepal and Bhutan in the north and Bangladesh and Burma in the east.

We, at Adventure Thirdpole Treks, provide treks and tours in three regions of India : Ladakh, Sikkim and Darjeeling.
