Mission Statement:
As part of our commitment to responsible
tourism, we have recently consented
to helping the disable of Nepal benefit
from the tourism related activities
we organize annually mainly, trekking,
climbing, mountain biking, bungee jumping
and paragliding.
In order to support the cause of the
disabled people in Nepal, we the Adventure
Thirdpole Treks have agreed to extend
our support to the Himalayan Charity
(HIMCHA) a Kathmandu based non profit
charitable organization which concentrates
its activities on supporting the cause
of disabled people.
As a leading Trekking Agency operating
for more than a decade and half, we
feel that a small portion of the profit
we generate from our activities should
also go towards helping the needy. Though
there are certainly a diverse range
of causes which are worth supporting,
we thought the cause of the disables
demand an immediate attention. We could
only wish that we were able to do much
more than what we have so far been able
to do to help to contribute to these
worthy causes, nonetheless, the efforts
we have put in some of the projects
in the past have resulted in some remarkable
achievements specially, in the areas
of providing educational opportunities
to some of the children whose parents
either stranded them at an early stage
or were found to be unable to afford
their kids education. It is a matter
of great satisfaction for us to note
here that the educational program run
by the Purna -Laxmi Memorial Trust
with the support of Adventure Thirdpole
Treks has helped enroll a number
of kids into the school who seem rather
thankful to this opportunity provided
to them. One can see the kids growing
to appreciate the manifold opportunities
that may be available to them once they
complete their schooling.
Encouraged by the positive outcomes
of Thirdpole
Educational Program, we further
looked into areas where the need for
support was quite urgent. It was during
this period that the Himalayan Charity
(HIMCHA) approached us for help.
Already aware of the initiatives being
taken by HIMCHA in its efforts
to help the disabled, we promptly responded
to their call with the assurance to
providing assistance that was required
of us.
We feel that despite the numerous organizations
which have sprung up in the last few
years in Nepal with objectives of addressing
the cause of rural poverty, education,
environment, health and unemployment,
there still lacks an effective mechanism
working to address the grievances of
the disabled. There are a host of organizations
working to secure and protect the interest
on diverse social issues but in comparison
to others the disables in Nepal clearly
lack an effective linkage which could
lobby and advocate their needs. They
are often neglected and their voices
are not heard of. They are looked down
on by the societies and rejected by
the family. Living the life in complete
dejection, they have nowhere to go and
no one to turn to for help.
We often forget to appreciate the fact
that disables are also a part of our
society, as human beings they are also
entitled to live a life of dignity.
They also posses certain skills which
if used can benefit the whole community.
Disables can also contribute to the
development of our society in many ways.
All that is needed on our part is merely
a better appreciation of this fact.
That is all.
With these in consideration, Adventure
Thirdpole Treks is taking a small
initiative in partnership with HIMCHAto
supporting the real cause of the Disable
in Nepal by organizing various tourism
related activities. |
