With 8 of the worlds 14 peaks over 8000 meters, Nepal has been the focus of some of the most outstanding achievements in the world of mountaineering. It also has a convergence of 1310 magnificent peaks over 6000 meters. Nepal has become famous through out the world due to these mountains.

There are some 326 peaks in Nepal opened for mountaineering today, among them:
- 22 peaks are opened for Nepalese expeditions as well as join Nepalese and Foreign expeditions consisting at least three Nepalese members.
- 4 peaks are opened to Foreign expeditions only when Nepalese has climbed them and Foreign joint expedition.
- 98 peaks are opened for Foreign expeditions.
