Peak Climbing |
The Great Himalayan Range of
800 kilometers lies within
the Nepal Himalayas. This
area houses a convergence of
1310 magnificent peaks
towering over 6,000 meters,
including 8 of the world's
highest 14 peaks and 50
peaks between 7001 - 8000
meters. Such high levels of
high mountain concentration
are not found anywhere else
in the world. It is no
exaggeration therefore to
say that Nepal is a prime
destination for
mountaineering and
expeditions. Not only the
prime destination for
mountaineering and
expedition but is also the
abode for mountaineers all
over the world
Permission for
Mountaineering Expeditions
of 133 of the peaks is
granted by the Ministry of
Culture, Tourism and Civil
Aviation (MoCTA). Similarly
33 peaks of 5,586m to 6,654m
ranges (Small Scale
attempts) are regulated by
the Nepal Mountaineering
Association (NMA).
The Government of Nepal has
categorized various peaks as
suitable for Mountaineering
expeditions which involves
significant sound technical
arrangements and are also
relatively costly. Likewise
it has specified a number of
peaks which are sometimes
sometime called “Trekking
peaks” or “Small scale
climbing peaks”. These peaks
are less technical and less
costly. A short overview and
description of such peaks is
listed below: |
