Panch Pokhari (new) |
|
Laying at the base of Jugal
Himal, towards the north
east of Kathmandu Valley and
boarding Tibet to its north,
the Panch Pokhari (5 Holy
Ponds) situated at an
altitude of 4000 meter, is
an area holding great
importance of religious
significance which is also
the home to the famous
Sherpa and Tamang people.
Trek to this rarely visited
pilgrimage site of Hindus
and Buddhists is commenced
by Chautara - a 5 hours
drive from Kathmandu
The distinct topography of
the area allows visitors the
opportunities to observe the
processes whereby religion
can be an effective medium
to bring about harmony
between nature and culture
existent in communal
diversity. Passing through
the beautiful villages,
dense forest, meadows and
terrace field the trek
offers excellent views of
Jugal Himal, Rolwaling and
part of the Gosainkunda area
giving true exposure to the
typical Nepalese lifestyle,
tradition, uses and custom
of local communities.
One of the major highlights
of this trek is the annual
festival of Jainpurnima held
in the month of August every
year attracting thousands of
Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims
from all over the country.
This can be an ideal
destination for those
visitors who wish to have a
quite and tranquil trekking
holiday. Besides, this trek
also offers the opportunity
to combine the Panch Pokhari
Trekking trip with popular
adventure sports such as
Rafting and Bunjee Jumping
in and on the Bhote Koshi
River running between the
Nepal- Tibet borders. |
