Surrounded by vast stretches of Tibetan Plateau in the North, Chumbi Valley of Tibet and the kingdom of Bhutan in the east, Darjeeling in the south and Nepal in the west, Sikkim is a very small hilly state in the Eastern Himalayas. The state of Sikkim has consequently divided into four districts such as North, East, South and West. The state being a part of inner ranges of the mountains of Himalaya has no open valley but consists of lower, middle and higher hills; alpine zones and snow bound land. Mount Kanchenjunga (8583m.) the third highest peak in the world defines its highest elevation.
